Best laptops for WordPress developers: what actually matters

A developer laptop is not about the logo on the lid. It is about whether the machine lets you work reliably every day: browser tabs, WordPress admin, LocalWP, VS Code, terminal, Git, Figma/Canva, calls, debugging tools and sometimes Docker.

The minimum I would choose

  • RAM: 16GB minimum. Choose 32GB if you run Docker, many local sites or heavy browser sessions.
  • Storage: 512GB works, but 1TB gives breathing room for local projects, backups and media.
  • CPU: modern Ryzen 5/7, Intel Core Ultra/i5/i7 or Apple Silicon is enough for most WordPress work.
  • Display: 14–16 inch with good brightness. Your eyes matter.
  • Ports: USB-C with display output makes external monitor setup easier.
  • Warranty: if the laptop is your income source, support matters.

Founder buying rule

If cashflow is tight, buy reliability before luxury. A stable laptop that lets you deliver work is better than a flashy machine that creates heat, storage or upgrade problems. Add a monitor and better desk setup after income stabilizes.

Affiliate disclosure: when I add affiliate links, I will only recommend tools and gear that fit a real developer workflow.
